Deco Marj

Marjorie Pruitt has loved beautiful papers and colorful ribbons for as long as she can remember. Fonts fascinate her, and she can pass endless hours of enjoyment getting just the right look for your occasion or event. Her flawless execution of original designs and attention to detail are the result of skills she acquired during her earlier career as a forensic and materials scientist.

When Marjorie stepped out of the lab and turned her long-term love affair with paper and cards into a thriving business as an invitation designer, she began to apply a version of the scientific method to her creativity. She does her research, comes up with a design solution, tests that solution with her clients and refines the idea. The result?

“You see your project being created right before your eyes. You’re a part of it,” says Marjorie, who carries out her design experiment in full partnership with her clients. Drawing upon keen observation skills, Marjorie finds her greatest inspiration as she listens to a client’s vision. She is known for her unique ability to pick up on and follow subtle cues, from how a client dresses and the type of jewelry she chooses to a preference for one design motif over another – even what makes a client smile.

“I like to find out who somebody is. I’ll pay attention to what you say, your likes, dislikes, even things you don’t say,” she says. “My focus is on drawing out your vision.” Clients rave about Marjorie’s ability to provide them with budget-friendly alternatives that accurately capture their vision. She uses a variety of print technologies, from engraving to thermography, from letterpress to flat printing.

Marjorie’s work has garnered peer recognition, industry honors, and the lasting appreciation of her clients. Combining the precision and efficiency of a scientist and the heart of an artist, she is living her dream and creating the memories and moments that define a lifetime for her clients.
